Dental Bonding
If you have chipped or cracked teeth, dental bonding may be the perfect solution for you. At Smiles by Sands, Dr. Jamie Sands and Dr. Jason Sands will discuss what is involved with dental bonding and whether or not this procedure is best for your individual needs.
Dental bonding is a process in a tooth-colored resin similar to a tooth’s enamel is applied to the tooth's surface and then a special curing light is used to harden the material allowing it to bond to the tooth.
Dental bonding is appropriate for:
The Process
Dental bonding is a fairly simple procedure, very similar to the application of sealants. The tooth is first roughened with an acidic solution so the resin will adhere nicely to the tooth. A resin chosen to match the natural color of your tooth is then applied and molded into the proper shape. After it’s smoothed to match the textures of your teeth, a special light is used to harden the resin.
Unless many teeth are involved, a dental bonding procedure can usually be completed in a single visit. Anesthesia is not necessary except in situations where the bonding is being used to repair a decayed tooth.
While the dental bonding resin isn’t as strong as a crown or other permanent tooth repair or replacement, it can be a very good solution for many cosmetic dental issues. In many cases, it’s all it takes to make you confident and happy about your smile.
